Theses & Dissertations

The Simmons University Digital Archives (SUDA) collects theses, dissertations, and similar academic capstone works completed by students as part of the educational requirements for masters and doctoral degrees. These works are important to Simmons University, reflecting the strength and innovation of its students, and are valuable to researchers and scholars.

Submission to SUDA

In addition to requirements specific to their respective program, each student completing a thesis, dissertation, or similar work is required to submit one electronic copy, an abstract, and an electronically signed Submission Agreement for inclusion in SUDA by filling out this Google Form.

Please note that SUDA only accepts final copies, free of comments, notes, and track changes, in PDF format. If you do not submit an abstract, the first paragraph of your thesis or dissertation will be used as the description of your work within SUDA.

Theses and dissertations will be updated to include  newly submitted theses and dissertations three times a year, at the end of September, January, and June. If you submit your scholarship between one of these dates, it will be made digitally available during the next round of updates. Also note that while creative MFA capstone works must be submitted to SUDA, they will not be made available through the platform.

While departmental requirements for a title page may vary, the title page of your submission must include at a minimum:

  • Title of scholarship
  • The name of the author
  • The degree being awarded and date
  • The names of appropriate faculty advisors

Copyright and Restriction Information

SUDA makes theses and dissertations available for educational purposes only. In most cases, thesis and dissertation copyright belongs to the student. Simmons University will hold copyright only if research for the thesis or dissertation is performed with financial support from funds administered by the University. In rare instances, a thesis or dissertation may contain information that must be restricted for a period of time, including personal information about third parties. If this is the case, please contact the University Archives to discuss specific restrictions. Otherwise, the work will be assumed to have no such restrictions.

Submission to ProQuest

Submitting your scholarship to SUDA does not submit your scholarship to any other digital platform or database, including ProQuest. The University Archives encourages, but does not require, students to submit an electronic copy and abstract of their thesis or dissertation to ProQuest. Additional information about submission is available here.
